NETS*T Certification:

by Linda Holt and Karen Campbell----
The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) has created National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS*T). These standards promote effective technology integration in the classroom. Teaching with technology has been shown to increase student achievement, and this is the overarching goal of the SVTC EdTech grant.

We are encouraging all teachers within our consortium to become NETS*T certified. View complete list of NETS*T certified educators.

The process

Below is an overall look at the certification process. For specific directions on how to submit artifacts, please download Steps for Submitting Artifacts.
  1. Register for a NETS*T Certification Electronic Portfolio at
http://svtcgrant.cisat.jmu.edu.
  1. Complete the survey of essential conditions and self-assessment online.
  2. Once you are in your electronic portfolio, select a performance indicator (eg. I.A, VI.C, etc.) under the ?View Current Status? link. You will have the following buttons for each performance matrix:
    1. Description (a description of the indicator)
    2. Plan (list ideas for meeting this standard section, optional)
    3. Evidence (a list of suggested artifacts for meeting this performance indicator)
    4. Model (see samples of artifacts, coming soon)
    5. Portfolio (upload or update artifacts)
Here is a presenation about the process:
Here is the handout we were given by Karen Cambell

Technology Teams:

Spring Hill ES Technology Team – Amy McFarlin, SBTS

1. The team meets once a month on Monday afternoons as part of a committee. Every teacher is required to be on at least one committee. Grades 1-5 are present (usually) and 1 specialist is present. Grade 5 teacher informs the 6th grade what is going on since there are only four 6th grade teachers and they are obligated to be on other committees.

2. Tech Members assist in letting us know the kinds of training they would like during their monthly training times.

3. Each member is responsible for the information provided by the SBTSs and giving it to their team members.

4. Team meets and discusses items they would like to be purchased by our P.T.O. and we also share what is going on in the classrooms.

5. Team members do some hands-on training and then they are supposed to turn around and train their teams. These are for "tips and tricks" not major training items.

6. Team shares the types of equipment available and lessons that the SBTSs can demonstrate and to talk to their teams about them.

We received a CD with the presentation and some other files as well.

Keynote in the Classroom:

by Suzanne Whitlow & Julie Franklin - Henrico Co. Public Schools

This was a Share Fair session that displayed quicktime that we made using Key Note which is similar to Power Point but for Apples. Here is a link to the website where their SOL review movies are stored. The movies are cute for SOL Review. Some of them having catching musical tunes with the kids singing to them. They said we can download them and use them at our schools as long as we have quicktime. http://staffdev.henrico.k12.va.us/~whitloss/keynotevste/index.html
